A Local Evening of Entertainment

P.A.L.S.

Performing Arts Learning School at Lasswade High School Centre

                                Oliver- A Sell Out!!

Since 1978 Lasswade High School Centre has been a Community School.  During that time with the participation and influence of people in the local community we have developed a programme that encompasses a diverse range of learning opportunities for everyone.

The Arts have always featured strongly in the school.  The P.A.L.S. group started in September 2000 and during the last 6 years this group of 9 –17year olds have dedicated their one evening per week (and some weekends) to the cause.  The group attracts over 80 young people each week.  With the direction and expertise of Gail Watson-Reid (Drama Tutor), Lorna Hume (Musical Tutor), Lindy Peaston (Stage Set and Design) and Sharon Jones (Dance Tutor), Jed Hanley (Sound & Light Co ordinator), Karen Hastings (costumes, co ordinator and photography) and several dedicated volunteers including Stacey and Carol, they have increased the confidence and self esteem of the young people and the whole group has worked very hard, both individually and collectively, to develop new skills in the dramatic arts.  Several pupils from both Lasswade and Beeslack greatly aided the production by volunteering with sound and light.

PALS for 2006 performed Oliver for 3 evenings, 13th, 14th and 15th December 2006.  The show was a sell out and attracted over 750 local parents, families and friends. The cast was a mixture of Lasswade High School Centre pupils and a variety of young people from the local primary and other Secondary Schools within Midlothian.

The singing was contagious, the dancers moves magnificent and the acting incredible. The responsive audience agreed all in all it was a grand evening of entertainment.
