VOLUNTEER WANTED

As Laura Valentine only wants to act as a clerk, the Parent Council is looking for a volunteer to take on the role of Secretary. Hopefully a volunteer will come forward at the next meeting.

SUB GROUPS

We are still looking for parents to put themselves forward for some of the groups discussed at the last meeting. Below is a list of the groups and who has put themselves forward for them.  We are hopeful that at the next meeting, we can break into the sub groups and work on remits for the group.  Following time for discussion each group would feedback to the rest of the Parent Council.

1.      ECO SCHOOL. The school itself has a great programme currently underway; however there have been no volunteers to take this forward form the Parent Council. School contact for this area is, Joe Alves, PT Drama.

2.      HEALTH PROMOTION Linda Duncan, Sheena Dryden, Keith Chapman. Keith has met with the School Nurse, who came to our meeting to discuss some proposals.

3.      SAFER ROUTES TO SCHOOL.  We only have one parent for this, Laura Valentine, again more volunteers would be welcome.

4.      CURRICULAR ISSUES. Harry Cochrane, Susan McLaughlin, Elizabeth Thomson.

5.      FUND RAISING. Keith Chapman, Graeme Hutton, Helen Lyall, Paul De Souza.

6.      COMMUNICATION. Keith Chapman, again more volunteers are sought for this. However, we all discussed and have agreed that we will get this meetings minute onto the school website as soon as possible to raise our profile with other parents. Harry Cochrane will try and get a school email account set up. The opportunities for the Parent Council to meet with parents at parents’ evenings were discussed.  There is a S2 Parents’ Night scheduled for 17 March.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS

TIMETABLE

Mr Jaster advised the Parent Council that the Principal Teachers have been given the proposed timetable changes. They will discuss within their departments then feedback to the School Management. The Departmental feedback is expected in the next few weeks.

ASBESTOS CONCERNS

A member of the Parent Council received an anonymous letter from a parent concerned about asbestos in the school. The concern centred on the recent fire damage and health of teaching staff.

The type of asbestos in the school is not one known to be dangerous, it is a ceramic compound containing asbestos which has no loose fibres. We were also informed that several air quality tests were carried out in the surrounding wings, over several days. The results, as expected, contained no traces of asbestos in the air. The school also has an asbestos register as per legal requirement which is up to date.

UNIFORM

Mr Jaster informed the Parent Council of recent school uniform issues. Some students are beginning to test the Dress Code by wearing jeans and trainers. The uniform itself is plain black trousers, a white shirt and plain black shoes, and house tie, which should suit every parent’s budget. The Parent Council supports the school on this and hopes that all other parents follow suit.

NEXT MEETING

The next meeting is for Wednesday 16th January at 7.30pm at the School.
