Graeme Hutton chaired meeting in Keith's absence.  Minutes taken by Christine Grahame.  Graeme went over the minutes of previous meeting for the benefit of those not at meeting.  Sheena pointed out that it was her, not Keith, who made contact with School Nurse.

It was felt important that minutes are circulated promptly to ensure acted on and clearly marked with ownership of task.

Eco School Group

Sheila Symon and Christine Grahame volunteered their names for the Eco Group.  Albert Jaster invited them to attend the next pupils' meeting, held on a Wednesday.  To be advised of date of next meeting.

Communications

John Fewster, Elaine and Grant Robson volunteered for Communications Group.  John also agreed to taken on role as Secretary.  Harry Cochrane advised he is working on the e-mail contact for Parents Council.

Sheila raised her concern over the fluctuating numbers attending meetings and the difficulties this would cause when trying to break into Sub Groups.  It was agreed that this was a valid concern and at this stage it was important that individuals focus on the issues of their sub group and bring their findings to the meetings, to be discussed by the whole group.

It was agreed to focus on Fundraising to raise the awareness of the Parent Council and at the same time raise funds for the school.

Fundraising

Graeme Hutton will look into whether a bank account needs to be opened.  He brought along some info from the Web on Companies/Charities who offer funds.

Albert Jaster suggested contacting local Companies direct and suggested offering advertising space in homework diary.

A Parent Council Newsletter is to be included in next Look in on Lasswade Newsletter asking for fundraising suggestions and any contacts/skills that can help.  E.g. If any parents have the MIDAS test and can drive school Minibus.

Susan McLaughlin pointed out that if organising a Christmas Fair would need to start organising now.  Albert Jaster asked if Susan McLaughlin could come back to next meeting with ideas and contacts for stalls.

Other ideas put forward were:  Dodge Ball – Graeme Hutton to discuss details with Paul DeSouza.  Albert Jaster to confirm availability of hall.  The possibility of having teams of approx 8, with mixed age groups, was discussed.

Quiz Night - Aimed at S1 and parents to be held at Rugby Club.

Albert Jaster will discuss these ideas with Pupil Council and provide feedback.  Also to enquire whether previous Parent/Staff Assoc would be interested in helping out at events.

Car Boot Sale.  This has been successful in past and fairly easy to organise.  Further funds can be made with additional stalls, e.g. BBQ.
